How Do Emotional Wounds Affect Our Relationship with God?

We feel unloved by God
We think God is angry with us
We can’t grasp the concept of God’s unconditional love
We are unable to trust God to meet our needs

Individuals with wounded hearts have immense difficultly grasping the concept of “God loving them as a unique person”.
The type of relationship we had with our earthly father as a child, greatly impacts our ability to trust our Heavenly Father.
Fear of a parent or authority figure as a child often transfers in our adult years, to an unhealthy fear of God.

We fear He will do us harm.
We fear He doesn’t have our best interests at heart.
We fear He is not approachable.
We fear He is angry with us.
We fear He can’t love us the way we are.
We fear He is not trustworthy.

Even some mature Christians have difficulty believing their Heavenly Father loves them unconditionally. In their intellect they believe God loves them; but at their emotional level they feel they have to obey God perfectly for God’s wonderful promises and love to apply to them.

If you don’t have a healthy view of who God is, you can’t have a healthy perception of who you are as His child?
You will limp from crisis to crisis, wondering if God truly is good and if He really does care.
